Clandon Park Wedding Photography
Friday 13th June 2014, unlucky for some perhaps, but not for us, nor was it for Laura and Andrew, who had an amazing Clandon Park wedding in glorious spring sunshine and we were the lucky one’s who got to photograph it.
Clandon Park, in Surrey, is a fantastic venue, not only from our perspective as photographers, but also for the couples getting married there. The arrangement of rooms in this historic venue, which is owned by The National Trust, make the perfect setting for the wedding day celebrations. Guests get to experience different parts of this unique venue throughout the day as the wedding progresses. When they arrive, they are ushered into the grand marble hall, where welcome drinks are served. They then move into the Tapestry Room, where the actual ceremony takes place. This is a breathtaking room for a photographer – every angle has a perfect backdrop and the couple and guests are lit beautifully by the full length windows in front of them. There is nothing better than a wall of natural daylight for illuminating a scene and making faces really come alive. It also provides a second photographer (Carol) to create stunning images from the back of the room, such as the one featured at the start of this post, which shows off the stunning ceiling of the room.
This is a condensed set of images from Laura & Andrews’s wedding, their final collection contained over 800 images. If you are planning a wedding at Clandon Park, then hopefully these images will give you an idea of how your own wedding could look at the venue, although obviously every wedding is uniquely different. Laura’s wedding day began at her parents house, with hair and make-up by Pam Wrigley at Wedding Makeup and Hair. Pam really knows how to make the very best of her clients, which for your wedding day is paramount. As an ex-fashion photographer, I’ve seen many of the world’s best makeup artists at work and have a full appreciation of their craft and the difference between good and average makeup. Pam’s work was truly top notch, no wonder she was National Winner of the Wedding Awards in 2013. If I were a bride, a good make up artist such as Pam would be high on my list of priorities – after booking a great photographer of course!
Laura’s colour theme of yellow and grey was very unusual and very stylish indeed. The sunny yellow was beautiful, refreshing and very modern, especially combined with the soft grey. We also loved all of the little personal touches that Laura and her family made for the wedding. The post box was hand painted by her dad, Laura’s talented sister Megan made all of the pretty signs and Laura and her Mum made the wedding favours – cute little jars of home-made lemon curd. Carol and I love to see the details that people choose for their wedding day, it makes it so much more interesting for us to shoot when there’s a personal touch and Laura and Andrew’s wedding had this in heaps. It was a very special day and a pleasure to be at and a joy to shoot.
The long aisle, all the way from the back of the marble hallway was covered at a speedy rate, as Laura virtually ran towards Andrew, her waiting groom! Pretty impressive in those gorgeous heels. I may be a boy, but I used to be a fashion photographer and I love clothes. Laura’s choice of dress – from Grace of Westcott (details below) – and her choice of sparkly heels by Benjamin Adams worked perfectly for her. She looked amazing. Meanwhile, Andrew was looking suitably nervous waiting with his best men. I do love this part of the day, when the groom is awaiting his bride. So many emotions cross a grooms face, that they are totally unaware of, but I’m able to capture.
After the ceremony, the couple and guests move back out into the marble hall for the champagne reception. What a glorious room the marble hall is, bathed with natural light. We were even able to capture some fab overview scenes of the room from the upstairs balcony.
